BUILDING BRIDGES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY More than a half million bridges carry cars and trucks across rivers in the United States every day. Of those bridges, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimates one in four is considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. Really, not surprising given that the majority of U.S. bridges are 50 to 60 years old having been built in the 1950’s and 60’s after the signing of President Eisenhower’s Federal Highway Act. You’ll learn about the various heights used and how height impacts cut quality, the cutting head, and consumable life. Take class now. Success Stories FOAM FABRICATOR BOUNCES BACK WITH WATERJET Package inserts, mattresses, seat cushions, floor mats, knee braces, pillows, and surf boards. The list of items made completely, or at least partially out of foam, is close to endless. That’s no accident. Foam’s low cost, light-weight, and durability make it a popular choice for a vast number of items. A dizzying amount of foam—polyurethane, polyethylene, polypropylene, neoprene, in all shapes, colors, densities, and types—is fabricated every year. Fire retardant, weather resistant, anti-static, military grade, anti-microbial, color-fast, expanded, beaded, cross-linked, reticulated, or felted. You name it. They’ve got it. Read more. |

Ask Jim
Q. I recently purchased a CNC cutting table with a Powermax125. I’ve read many articles and posts you've written about achieving better hole quality. I am cutting 5/8" plate and trying to cut 3/4" holes. You stated in an article that I should be using the 65 amp consumables. Can I turn up my amperage without destroying my consumables? I am very new to CNC plasma so this is quite the learning process. Can you recommend a machine set up for this plate and hole size? Thanks for your time. A. Hole cutting on most CNC machines requires some care once the hole diameters become smaller than about 1-1/4”. An air plasma arc will tail back (i.e. the bottom of the cut trails behind the top) a bit when you are cutting at the ideal speed for outside plate contours. By ideal speed, I mean the speed at which you’ll get minimal dross and angularity on your cut piece. This tail in the arc will increase angularity as the hole diameter gets smaller. Read more.
