THE IMPORTANCE OF SAVING YOUR SETUP FILE

More and more today we receive calls from customers who might have an issue with cut quality or are receiving a failure code but do not know how to fix it. In cases like this, many of the questions back to a customer from a service engineer are related to settings within their system and how those might play into the failure seen by the customer.

As the customer, you may be familiar with the user interface screens and how to navigate between them. Often customers try different settings in the moment to do cause-and-effect investigation on their own, but then don’t remember where they were originally or how to get back to an earlier performance level, particularly if something happened and cut quality or machine performance degraded as a result.

Enter the setup file. This file contains code which serves as the map for how the system was set up and which settings were chosen for all the process parameters. Having a copy saved on a USB stick or in a backed-up network location off the control means:

1. The file can be e-mailed for analysis and easier troubleshooting when problems occur.

2. The file is available for re-loading if some catastrophic failure ever occurred to the CNC. This is also important when a CNC is upgraded, swapped out, or newly purchased but the same parts will be running on the system as before.

3. You’ll never lose your setup file, and all the work which went into determining the correct settings during install. Imagine the hit to productivity recreating all of those could cause. Remember to save your setup files!
