Letter from Hypertherm

When I visit Hypertherm customers—pretty much anywhere in the world these days—the two most common goals that they share with me in the current slower economic environment are to improve the profitability of their existing operations and to find new avenues of growth. I’d probably answer in the same way for Hypertherm, as would most business leaders today. Up until about five years ago, the priority was more commonly to manage growth and increase throughput in a fast-growth world. Read more.

Customer Spotlight

ONE STOP SHOP
Reduce operating expenses, increase profit, eliminate secondary work, cut down on material handling, and bring outsourced work back in house. It sounds like a daunting “to-do” list for any plant manager, except in Ontario, Canada where one company put a check mark by all of the above in less than a year. Operating expenses decreased by $100,000 for 2013. Profit per assembly increased $500. In addition, AWC Manufacturing added one more thing to its list: the ability to take on more work. Their secret: a Hypertherm Built for Business Integrated Cutting Solution. Read more.

Technical Tip

In Technical Service, we regularly speak with customers who are not familiar with the power of using watch windows on their control. This simple tool, indicated by the binocular symbol shown on the main Phoenix screen below, can help with many things such as monitoring gas flows for your plasma system, particularly cut and gas flow during cutting, understanding motion parameters like position or following error, monitoring coolant flow to compare to what is optimal. Live Learning

AMPERAGE VS. TRUE CUTTING POWER
More amperage equals more power, right? Well not necessarily, as Hypertherm's Jim Colt explains in his one hour on-demand webinar. Learn what you should really be looking for when selecting your next plasma cutting system. Watch now.

PRONEST POWER USER
Our experts teach you advanced, process-specific, programming techniques (plasma, laser, oxyfuel, or waterjet) that will assist with increasing your productivity and profitability. Learn about powerful production tools such as the integration of ProNest to an ERP/MRP system, Work Order flow and Plate Inventory synchronization. Plus review proven steps to help you achieve better cut quality, productivity and material utilization. Join us this June in Minnesota or Iowa. Sign up now.

Success Stories

DOUBLING PRODUCTIVITY IN QUEBEC
As the team charged with bringing projects designed and engineered by Groupe Lar to life, the team at Quebec’s Lar Machinerie is constantly busy. The company’s jobs regularly include large projects, such as fabricating heavy overhead cranes, hoists, gates, and even dam spillways. These large projects require the use of thick plate, which can often measure 2, and occasionally even 6, inches in thickness. Because it often cut thick plate, this 72 year old company traditionally relied on oxyfuel as its cutting process. Its most recent system was a six torch flame cutter purchased in the late nineties. ARGON GAS FOR MARKING
Q. What is the rate of argon gas usage when using the plasma marking feature? How long should a 300 cubic foot bottle of argon gas last when marking parts?

A. Argon is used as the plasma gas when marking with our HyPerformance HPR systems. This is because argon is far less aggressive as compared to the normal cutting gases (oxygen, nitrogen, air, etc.) and produces a finer mark without damaging the material. Read more.
